About Emily Perez Torpey
I’m from Rochester, New York and studied accounting at Boston College. But truthfully, I felt totally out of place in the corporate accounting world. So after graduation I did something audacious: I broke free from my excel spreadsheets and found a way to blend my practical background with something I actually love—ART. Over the past two years, I've lived bicoastally—creating art and working across various creative sectors and galleries in Los Angeles and New York City, so you may have seen my work exhibited on both coasts.
I paint figurative expressionism and make work that reflects the experience of growing up as an American girl - navigating ambition, uncertainty, and a relentless drive to succeed. My work sits in the tension between confidence and insecurity, exploring what it feels like to move through the world with drive and talent, yet still wonder if it will ever be enough. Ultimately, my paintings are about anxiety, change, and the persistence it takes to keep showing up, even when the outcome is uncertain
